December 1, 2022<\/em> \u2013 It\u2019s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at your local library. Across Kansas, public libraries are getting into the spirit of the holidays by decorating and hosting programming around holiday events and traditions. This is such a positive way to spend time with your family as we move into December.<\/p>\n

No matter what holiday you are celebrating, the traditions give your family additional meaning. During the heart of the pandemic, some realized that traditions are how we tell the changing of the seasons. We hold on to these events and rituals dear because gathering with your family and community adds meaning to your life. It nurtures your spirit and creates bonding time for your family.<\/p>\n

Bonding with your community is also important. Those shared traditions help you see your neighbors, give your children time to play with friends, and connect you with others through volunteering and celebrating. Traditions make you feel a part of something bigger.<\/p>\n

Some people in our communities are limited in their access to others. For those who are older, people with a disability, or those who are far away from home; developing a connection to the community is even more important. Be sure to reach out to your neighbors and make sure they are talking and interacting with people this time of year.<\/p>\n

Your local library can be a formal or informal part of those traditions. Be sure to check out their December calendar for events and programming that are unique to your library and town. There is plenty to do! While you are there learn more about other holidays in December. Hanukkah is gorgeous with the lights. Kwanzaa could add meaning to you and your family even if you are just starting to learn about the celebration.<\/p>\n

Your local public library has lots of books and materials for the season. Cookbooks, humor, children\u2019s picture books, magazines, movies, and TV shows, and much more.
