November 22, 2022 — With Thanksgiving just days away, this is the time to visit your local public library. There are so many things to borrow that will make your holiday time with family even better.
To start, plan your Thursday meal and leftovers with cookbooks. Every public library in Kansas has a great selection of cookbooks – both physical copies and e-books. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the Barefoot Contessa or you want to learn how to use your air fryer more, there are cookbooks galore at your local library.
Next, be sure to check out the selection of cake pans. You can channel your inner ‘Great British Bakeoff’ skills to make a showstopper. “Great Bend is just one of dozens across Kansas with such a collection. The library in Sabetha has a collection of 168 cake pans, while the Coffey County Library in eastern Kansas has 389 cake pans among its six branches.” Should you make a turkey cake? A Bundt cake? Maybe a football?
Holidays are for spending time with family and friends. What is better than playing a game? Public libraries across Kansas have board games to trivia games. Don’t tell your tweens and teens, some libraries have video game checkouts too.
Finally, we all need a little relaxation at some point during the holiday weekend. Be sure to grab some books for quiet time. Best sellers, romance, historical fiction, and Christmas-themed books are ready for everyone.
