Public, School, Academic,
and Special Libraries

Kansas has different types of libraries to serve your information needs. Hundreds of school libraries are in elementary, middle, and high schools across the state. Academic libraries support learning and research at the state’s leading public and private colleges and universities. There are many special libraries and collections that provide us with history and specialized information.

You are probably most familiar with public libraries – the library that is the center of your community.  Public libraries often provide popular content including best sellers, cookbooks, entertainment, and e-books. They have classic books that have influenced our culture and reference materials to answer questions.

Public libraries (and books) are not going away any time soon. In fact, they are as popular as ever. Simply put, libraries are essential to our communities.
